Aimee Taylor

Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist NC LMBT # 7632

Aimee Joy Taylor (LMBT NC # 7632) has been a licensed massage and bodywork therapist since 2007 and she is the founder of The Institute for Grief Massage Inc. Aimee felt called into service after she experienced profound personal loss and discovered how helpful massage therapy could be during times of transition and grief. She is a two-time grantee (2012 & 2013) of The Massage Therapy Foundation (Community Service grants). Through these grants, and a partnership with The Respite: A Centre for Grief and Hope, Aimee was able to train number of massage therapists in her Grief Massage approach and provide many grieving individuals in the Charlotte area with free, grant-funded Grief Massage sessions. Aimee’s signature Grief Massage offering,  “Safe and Gentle Grief Massage℠”, offers a unique experience of gentle bodywork, empathy for the stressful nature of grieving, and a fully present practitioner. In addition to her work as a licensed massage therapist, Aimee writes about grief and massage therapy and teaches a continuing education class for licensed massage therapists (“The Joy of Grief Massage℠”). Aimee is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education Approved Provider (Approved Provider # 521).  Aimee holds a BA in Psychology (minor in Public Health) from Queens University of Charlotte and is currently enrolled in the Masters in Counseling graduate program at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

What do you love most about your work?
I love being a supportive presence in the lives of people who are grieving, because I fully remember the shock and stress of the early weeks and months following my own personal losses. The little comforts and kindnesses I received in my own early grief (and the massages I received while grieving) were so nourishing. I hope my work helps others in a similar way – providing moments where they can look forward to simple comfort and human contact. I love being of service to grieving clients because grief and death are such uncomfortable topics in our current culture and I believe services that affirm grievers and cater to their needs are very needed.

Benefits of Services:
Aimee’s Grief Massage work focuses on creating safe, nurturing massage therapy experiences for clients who are grieving recent losses (of any kind).  Her signature Grief Massage session, “Safe and Gentle Grief Massage℠” offers grieving clients:

– A supportive space
– Full acceptance
– A gentle massage that will not attempt to “fix” their situation (Aimee believes that refraining from        trying to “fix” grief is the greatest gift she can offer grieving clients)
–  A focus on client comfort: clients can remain fully clothed for this type of massage
